NATIONAL MINIMUM WAGE - OCTOBER 2011 (26/09/2011)

The National Minimum Wage (NMW) is set to rise on the 1st October 2011, this is the minimum amount per hour that most workers in the UK are entitles to be paid and is reviewed annually by the Low Pay Commission.

There are different levels of NMW depending on age and from the 1st of October 2011 the rates change to the following;

Workers aged 21 and over - £6.08ph

Workers aged 18-20 - £4.98ph

Workers aged 16-17 - £3.68ph

Apprentice rate - £2.60ph

National Minimum Wage is an entitlement to most workers over school age. It makes no difference if you are weekly or monthly paid and if you are paid by cheque, cash or BACS, if you are working on a permanent or temporary contract and if you do full time or part time hours.

Another important change is AWR which is also implemented in the UK on the 1st of October 2011.

The purpose of these new regulations is to provide temporary workers with equal treatment in terms of basic working and employment conditions as if they had been employed directly to do the same job. The rights will apply after a 12 week qualifying period.

Following the 12 week qualifying period the temporary workers will be entitled to equal treatment, including; pay, working hours, overtime, breaks holidays and access to training and collective facilities
